The new Greek regulatory framework on geographical indications (GIs) for craft and industrial products, introduced under Law 5297/2026 in alignment with Regulation (EU) 2023/2411, recognises GIs as protected IP rights and strengthens the protection of authentic products linked to geographical origin.
Key aspects of the new regime include registration and protection mechanisms, the digitalised GIportal application process, the role of OBI and other competent authorities, and the positioning of GIs as strategic IP assets capable of enhancing brand value, authenticity, and market positioning.
