The ECB has published proposals to simplify the EU’s supervisory and reporting framework, following the work of its High-Level Task Force on Simplification. The recommendations aim to reduce unnecessary complexity in prudential regulation, supervision, and reporting, while preserving financial stability and supervisory effectiveness. Key themes include streamlining capital and macroprudential frameworks, improving proportionality in supervisory practices, and advancing the principle of “define once, report once” through more integrated EU-wide reporting. The proposals are intended to inform forthcoming policy initiatives, including the European Commission’s 2026 review of the Banking Sector in the Single Market.
