Consumer Credit Agreements - Directive (EU) 2023/2225

Consumer Credit Agreements - Directive (EU) 2023/2225

As the transposition deadline of 20 November 2025 approaches, Directive (EU) 2023/2225 on consumer credit agreements is poised to significantly reshape the EU’s legal landscape. The Directive introduces enhanced transparency requirements, ensuring consumers receive comprehensive pre-contractual information, particularly on payment obligations. It enforces standards of good conduct among creditors, mandates fair creditworthiness assessments (including rights around AI-based evaluations), and obliges Member States to prevent excessive credit costs. Importantly, it promotes consumer protection in cases of financial distress and introduces mandatory training standards for credit institution staff. Creditors across the EU, including in Greece, must now align internal practices and policies with these requirements to ensure full compliance.
